A MEMBER of Bala and Dolgellau Angling Club is celebrating his biggest catch of his life.

Phil Wood has now netted the Ned Hughes Trophy, which is awarded annually to the best fly fisherman in Wales.To catch this prestigious trophy the former ghillie of the 220 acre Tal-y-llyn in southern Snowdonia had to fish four different lakes from all over Wales.

“I fished at Llyn Brenig and Llan Trawsfynydd and two other challenging waters in south Wales and won outright three of the four competitions which has never been done before,” said Phil, who has been fishing for over 50 years.

For the seventh year running Phil is representing Wales at the international fly fishing competition which is being held at Pontypool.
