THERE were chaotic scenes at Black Rock Sands over the Bank Holiday weekend after angry drivers were left queuing to access the beach due to a main entrance being locked.

A resident on Beach Road, who did not want to be named, described the scenes leading down to Black Rock Sands over the bank holiday weekend as ‘chaotic’ after one of the entrances onto the beach remained closed, leaving vehicles queuing for almost an hour.

The entrance on Lôn Gwydryn was due to be opened by Gwynedd Council in time for the half-term break.

The disgruntled resident said: “The decision not to open the beach road access was bad enough but not putting a prominent sign at the top of the beach road turned it into chaos on the narrow lane.

“Vehicles were driving down to the closed barrier then turning round in private entrances before trying to negotiate the oncoming traffic to return. Some were giving up and parking wherever they could which was adding to the congestion.

“The only access to the beach, the main entrance, was completely log-jammed and the average time to queue was 45 minutes, leaving frayed tempers and angry residents. On Monday the police had to be called out to calm the situation down.”

A North Wales Police spokesman said they were aware of the volume of traffic in the Borth y Gest and Morfa Bychan areas over the Bank Holiday Weekend but it was the responsibility of Gwynedd Council to manage the traffic and parking arrangements.
