TERMINALLY ill children have been donated a significant four-figure sum by a local yacht club after a successful charity event took place.
Following the success of the Hope House Challenge Raft Race in the Mawddach Paddlefest in June, members of the Merioneth Yacht Club presented Hope House/Ty Gobaith Children’s Hospice with a cheque for £1,400 last weekend.
Now run by Merioneth Yacht Club, the Mawddach Paddlefest held annually in Barmouth, is a charity Paddlesport weekend and this year raised around £4,000 for local good causes, which will also include a public access defibrillator for the Barmouth harbourside and support for Barmouth in Bloom initiative.
A spokesperson for Mawddach Paddlefest said: “Organisers would like to thank everyone involved in running this event and to the many local Outdoor Activity Centres for the loan of their equipment.
“Without everybody’s support the Mawddach Paddlefest could not give hope to so many people in need.
“Next year’s Mawddach Paddlefest will be over 15-16 July - see www.mawddachpaddlefest.org for more information.”
