MULTIPLE emergency and volunteer services have held an “entertaining and informative” open day at Barmouth’s RNLI station.

There was “huge excitement and enthusiasm” at the RNLI Boathouse on the promenade in Barmouth on Saturday, 6 August when all the emergency services joined forces to hold a Blue Light Day.

Organised by PCSO David Hughes there were stalls, displays and demonstrations from North Wales Police, British Transport Police, Marine Watch, HM Coastguard and Mountain Rescue, Air Ambulance, the Royal Lifesaving Society and the Royal National Lifeboat Institution.

Each organisation came together to show the general public the important role they play and provided information about our emergency services in an entertaining, interactive and informative manner.

There were several activities for all ages across the day including the opportunity for children to sit in a real police car with the sirens blaring. An additional highlight allowed participants to have their fingerprints taken and to be able to take them home to keep in a special key ring.

South Snowdonia Search and Rescue team representatives displayed their vehicles and equipment and gave lessons in knot making. The Royal Life Saving Society explained their role in education and the prevention of drowning and the RNLI’s Respect the Water campaign was on hand to give information and advice of how to stay safe in our coastal waters.

A spokesperson for RNLI Barmouth said: “It was a very successful day and a great example of what can be achieved when public sector partners join forces in an effective campaign.”
