A decorated and inspirational basketball coach from Penparcau has been shortlisted for another prestigious award and will attend an event alongside the England football manager later this month.

Lee Coulson, who founded Aberystwyth Basketball Club in 1992 and made a significant impact on disabled people’s lives through setting up the West Coast Warriors Wheelchair Basketball Club, has been named as a finalist for the 2018 UK Coaching Awards.

Lee was awarded a BEM for “services to disability basketball” in the Queen’s New Year’s Honours List earlier this year as well as a slew of other prizes for his work in the town.

At the 2018 UK Coaching Awards, which will take place at The HAC, City of London tomorrow, Lee is one of three people shortlisted for the Community Coach of the Year.

Lee has been given a Ceredigion Sports Council award in 2017, was named the 2013 Ceredigion Sports Coach of the Year, and The Disability Sport Volunteer of the Year 2012 for his work establishing the wheelchair basketball section of the club.

He served as Wales Under-18s assistant coach at the Women’s Under-18’s European Basketball Championships where the team can home with bronze, and also served as head coach of Wales Under-16s.

In 2013 he was shortlisted for the BBC Cymru Wales Disability Coach of the Year Award.
