A BARMOUTH B&B has raised £1,000 for the RNLI after concocting an innovative fundraising scheme.
When Glenn and Sarah Radford moved to Ocean Drive Guesthouse in Marine Parade three years ago, they soon began supporting their local RNLI station.
Now a familiar figure in his Victorian bathing costume, Glenn made his third appearance at the RNLI’s New Year’s Day dip on 1 January. But the couple also have also had another ingenious way of raising funds for the charity.
For the past year, they have been asking each of their bed and breakfast guests, when they leave, to donate £1 to the RNLI.
They are then given a ticket and their names recorded, and at the end of the year a lucky winner is chosen to win a two-night stay in a room of their choice.
On New Year’s Day, coxswain Peter Davies was asked to draw a name out of a hat and was delighted to find that their efforts had raised £1,000 for the RNLI in the process.
