ABERAERON’S county councillor has said she hopes the town can "now move forward in a more responsible way, so that everyone can enjoy the town", after anger at crowds and "deeply unpleasant anti-social behaviour” marred the Easter bank holiday weekend.

Police were forced to issue a dispersal order to more than 150 people who gathered in the town last weekend.

Cllr Elizabeth Evans said the scenes of “some very irresponsible behaviour”, were “extremely disappointing”.

“The use of dispersal orders will continue if this kind of behaviour happens again,” she said.

“Some of the anti-social behaviour was deeply unpleasant for neighbouring properties and understandably I have had so many complaints as a result.

“This is not the image Aberaeron wants to portray, and it has to be nipped in the bud.

“It is completely understandable that people want to be out in the sunshine enjoying themselves, but that enjoyment should never be to the detriment of everyone else.

“The police have made their views known and I hope that we can now move forward in a more responsible way, so that everyone can enjoy the town.”

Dyfed-Powys Police said there was a “significant increase in traffic” to the town which saw an influx of people.

As well as a dispersal order issued for 150 people, police also handed out “a low number of fixed penalty notices” for breaching coronavirus regulations.
