A BARMOUTH man has lopped off his “cherished” beard to raise money for a cancer charity following his brush with the cruel disease.

Chris Mitchelmore raised nearly £1,000 in The Royal last weekend when he shaved off his trademark six-inch facial hair.

Chris originally had a target of £600 but, via a sponsorship form behind the bar and an online appeal, he smashed this initial target and raised £948.

When asked to explain why he chose Macmillan the kind-hearted charity fund-raiser explained that they had taken such good care of him during a recent cancer scare that “he wanted to give something back”.
