Madam,
You recently carried a comment from Rhydian Mason (rail development officer for the Cambrian Railways Partnership) who mentioned that the Machynlleth to Pwllheli Cambrian Coast Railway is stunning, and that the Cambrian main line from Shrewsbury to Aberystwyth is equally spectacular.
Well, 126 years ago someone grumbled in her journal thus: “Welsh railways are past description. Four hours to go 60 miles between Shrewsbury and Machynlleth. When mushrooms are in season the guard goes out to pick them.”
It was a young woman called Beatrix Potter, writing in 1888.
Have things really improved?
Yours etc,
Jen Mathias, Llangybi.
