Madam,

I have read a great deal over the past weeks on the future of Bodlondeb Care Home in Penparcau, Aberystwyth.

After six weeks in Bronglais Hospital, my 87-year-old mother was offered a temporary place at Bodlondeb. She was apprehensive at first, but was in urgent need of professional care. And that is exactly what she received at Bodlondeb.

The standard of care was first-class, every single member of staff was caring, kind, thoughtful, considerate and attentive. The food was fantastic, they catered for her vegetarian diet, and they did everything they possibly could to help get her back on her feet. After almost eight weeks, Mum has returned to independent living, thanks to the staff at Bodlondeb. She couldn’t have done it without them.

It is such a shame that, while Bronglais is full of elderly people unable to go home and there is so-called “bed blocking”, Bodlondeb just down the road is almost empty. It just doesn’t make sense. This fantastic care home needs to be utilised and Bronglais needs some empty beds!

Yours etc,

G Smith, Llanbadarn Fawr.
