Madam,
In the forthcoming Ceredigion council elections, there are many ‘Independent’ candidates, whether they are incumbent councillors or those of us who are challenging for the first time.
It was therefore intriguing that the Ceredigion Independent Group launched its manifesto last week, led by Ray Quant (‘Independents launch council elections manifesto’, last week’s Cambrian News). Mention of this group’s manifesto may be absent from election material of its members, so voters need to be very careful when voting for an ‘Independent’ candidate. Those of us who are truly independent may have particular suggestions, but stand on our merit, our integrity and honesty to bring transparency to council decisions.
Given several recent decisions Ceredigion council has made in spending our money, voters need to be very careful where their vote goes, whether it be to a political party representative, to a member of the ‘Independent Group’ or to a genuine, autonomous Independent.
Yours etc,
Hugh R M Hughes, Independent county council candidate, Borth ward, Ffordd y Fulfran, Borth.
