A GROUP looking to launch a new community-run youth centre in Lampeter has urged local residents to get behind the plans.

Sophie Moore, is leading Gaia United, the Lampeter-based group that wants to inspire members of the community to set up the youth centre and continue to run it as a “safe haven” for youngsters in the town.

The group, which is currently being run by just two people, has already received backing from supporters, but Sophie said she wanted to see as many local residents as possible involved in the scheme, with the group identifying a potential base already.

Sophie said: “I am currently in the process of arranging plans for a local youth centre, based in Lampeter. The idea is that it will be a community-based organisation, so we will be depending entirely on the community pulling together in order to first get this up and running, and then to keep it running.

“My main goal at the moment is to inform the community of our plans and gain more interest in the project.

“There are currently two of us working on the project, but I have a number of local residents willing to help with fundraising projects and getting things up and running.

A meeting will be organised soon so that more volunteers can get involved.
