Editor,
On Tuesday, 5 November, at the Royal British Legion poppy stall at Morrisons, Aberystwyth, a lady called Suzette Cook, visiting from Spetchley, Worcs, and making for a friend’s house at Mydroilyn, stopped to recall her late father in the RAF in World War Two.
He was Ronald Stokes, tail gunner of Halifax LK932 MP-X (76 Squadron, RAF Bomber Command), shot down on 3 November 1943 over Holland. He survived, but died in 1992.
The aircraft’s commander was FlightLt Denis Hornsey. He wrote a book, The Pilot Walked Home. I have now heard from another crew member’s son in Port Talbot, who knows Denis Hornsey’s daughter and further relatives of the aircrew.
If Suzette Cook or her Mydroilyn friends see this, please email me for contact between the relatives from this Halifax crew’s final mission.
