Madam,
Members of an independent organisation that represents 600 tourism and hospitality businesses across mid Wales are being urged to attend the annual meeting next month to thank the retiring chairman for her long and distinguished service.
Anne Lloyd-Jones, from Tywyn, has decided to step down after being chairman of MWT Cymru for 15 years, having guided the organisation through many changes in the tourism industry along the way. She has been a member since the organisation was formed in 1991.
The annual meeting is being held in The Village Hall, Plas Talgarth Resort, Pennal, near Machynlleth on 9 December and it is an ideal opportunity for members to turn out in force to thank Mrs Lloyd-Jones for her wise leadership and support for the tourism industry in mid Wales over many years.
Mrs Lloyd-Jones took over as chairman following the death of Tom Raw-Rees in 2001 and had shown true leadership over the past 15 years.
During her chairmanship, she has witnessed the replacement of the Wales Tourist Board with Visit Wales and the advent and demise of regional tourism partnerships whilst continuing to serve as a member of Gwynedd County Council, of which she is a past chairman.
The tourism industry has gone through a phenomenal period of change since Anne took over as chairman and she has used her wealth of experience to successfully guide MWT Cymru through some challenging times with great skill and diplomacy.
It would be very fitting if members made a special effort to attend the annual meeting to show their appreciation of Anne’s leadership and contribution to tourism in mid Wales.
The meeting would also provide the perfect opportunity to celebrate successful developments of the past year and to look forward with optimism to MWT Cymru’s plans for 2017.
Yours etc,
Val Hawkins, chief executive of MWT Cymru.
