A RALLY to show solidarity with the Black Lives Matter movement will take place in Lampeter’s Harford Square at 6pm this evening (Wednesday).
Those wishing to attend are asked to wear face masks and maintain social distance at the event, organised by Stand Up to Racism West Wales.
Similar rallies and protests have been held in Machynlleth, Aberystwyth and Cardigan over the last week as the campaign has grown globally.
“The racism we see today in the UK as well as the US, with black people dying in police custody, rising racist attacks, the Windrush scandal and the preventable deaths of thousands of black people from Covid-19, are a legacy of our imperial and colonial past,” said spokesperson Dinah Mulholland.
“Wales cannot escape responsibility for its part in this history, particularly the part that was played by brutal slavers and murderers like Thomas Picton and Thomas Phillips, who are glorified and commemorated as heroes in Mid and West Wales.
“#TakeTheKnee is an opportunity to stand with the millions across the world suffering from racism, join the call for real change, for a world without racism and make Black Lives Matter a reality."
