THE MENS darts team, having been beaten 7-1 at Abergele in a league match, suffered another defeat at the RWF Club on Sunday as they lost 6-2 to the visiting team, Holyhead.

FOLLOWING its recent AGM, the bowling club have announced that its chairman for the next year will be Dafydd Lloyd Williams, with the secretary to be Dewi Moelwyn Williams; treasurer and club captain, Martin Hughes and Dafydd and Barry J Hughes, and R Elwyn and Elwyn Vaughan Jones its committee members. The club has opened its North Wales League programme with a 8-4 home win over Llandudno with Martin and Jason Hughes, R Elwyn, Stephen and Dylan V Jones and Aled Owen their winners.Last weekend they were at Rhos Park B. In The Gwynedd Cup, they have been drawn with four home and four away games against Benllech, the match to be played in early June.The team is also to enter the Friday evenings league cup event which will be played on a five home and five away basis. On Saturday, the Blaenau Bowling had a fine 7-5 North Wales League A win at Rhos Park B despite being one player short and their winners were Martin Hughes, Aled Owen, Mike Burgoyne, and Stephen and R Elwyn Jones. This Saturday they host Beaumaris B.

THE Sea and Mountains art exhibition by artist Ray Murphy which has been on show at the Maenofferen Gallery comes to an end this week.It will be followed by an art exhibition inspired by the archives collection in partner-ship with Gwynedd Community Arts Unit and it is set up by Reginald Hallward, Rhian Haf and Morgan Griffith.Clwb CerddedBYDD cyfarfod blynyddol Clwb Cerdded Stiniog i’w gynnal yn o fuan gyda’r dyddiad a’r lleoliad eto i gael ei gyhoeddi. BLAENAU Amateurs FC were beaten 1-0 at home by Llanerchymedd on Saturday and had two players sent off, while the Reserve side’s midweek match at Llangefni was postponed, as was their match at Glan Conwy on Saturday. This Saturday, the first team are due to play at Prestatyn Sports and the second team are also away at Llandudno Junction. Bro Ffestiniog XV Division 2 North home match against Shotton Steel at Dolawel had to be postponed due to the waterlogged pitch.
Chamber
THE chamber of commerce and tourism is to write to the town and Gwynedd Council regarding the delays in having the Diffwys based flagpole and its fountain repaired after both have been needing attention for quite some time now. This was decided at the chamber’s AGM where the following officials were elected: chair, Clare Britton; vice-chair, Gail Jordan; secretary, Ann Griffiths; treasurer, Alan Wheal; membership sec, Gail Weir; webmasters, Alister Haveron and Alan Wheal; and marketing officer, Gail Jordan. The retiring secretary Diane Lea, who has moved from the area, was thanked for her valued contribution to the chamber whilst in the post.The meeting was held at the Seren-run Bryn Llewelyn Hotel where the members were shown around the 10-bedroom site and then saw a brief film on what it had to offer as well as Seren’s contribution to the area by employing 54 full time employees, 36 registered carers and 35 service users which it supports. The meeting was also addressed by Allistair Wilkinson from the Credit Union stating it was the biggest such union in Wales and it is completely free of charge to join.He was thanked for his contribution by the chair.
Local events
THERE are a variety of local events arranged for the coming months which will bring in many supporters as well as those who will be taking part in them. Firstly, the Moelwyn Fell Race gets under way this Saturday at 2pm.The Ffestiniog Railway’ Society’s special weekend will be held on 30 April and 1 May. On 29 May, the Ffestiniog 360 Bike-spon-sored event will take place before hundreds of tractors and their supporters will visit Diffwys Square on Sunday, 12 June for the Welsh National Tractor Run followed by a classic cars rally on 31 July.
Poster
WHILE welcoming what is going on at Llechwedd Quarry at the moment, many businesses have said they would welcome more publicity at that site to get people to visit the town itself.With this in mind, it has been announced that a business poster will be set up at Llechwedd where local traders can advertise on and more importantly a map to show them the way to town will also be its heading.
Candidate
THE 28-year-old local former Big Brother contestant, Glyn Wise of Picton Terrace, who now lives and works in the Cardiff area, has announced that he is standing as the Plaid Cymru candidate for Cardiff Central in the Welsh Assembly elections on 5 May.
Memorial
THE TOWN council is to discuss a request for a tree to be planted locally in memory of the Welshmen killed in Marnetz Wood, France in 1916.
