BLAENAU Amateurs FC were beaten 2-0 at home by Nantlle Vale on Thursday evening and then 6-1 at Pentraeth on Saturday. This Saturday they host Amlwch Town with a 1.30pm kick off. Amlwch reserves were beaten 3-0 at home by Llanberis Reserves on Wednesday. They played at home against Denbigh on Monday this week, at Llanrwst on Wednesday, and will face Meliden on Saturday, kick off 4.30pm and in between they are at Llanrwst.Bro Ffestiniog XV kept their WRU Division 2 promotion hopes alive by scoring 11 tries in their 69-3 home win over Menai Bridge The Bowling Club kept up their unbeaten start to their North Wales League A programme with an 8-4 win at Beaumaris A thanks to wins by Dafydd, Martin and Jason Hughes, Mike Burgoyne, Dylan V Jones and Adam Hyde and they host Colwyn Bay British Legion on Saturday. On the golf course, Eifion Morris of Manod now living at Betws y Coed won the Prys Jones & Booth Cup at the Betws Club, four points ahead of the runner up. The Blaenau men’s darts side were beaten 7-1 at Penygroes in a Gwynedd Super League match and this Sunday the local RWF Club will host an open men’s darts event where it is expected players from other parts of Gwynedd will be taking part.
Poetry
THE Blaenau Poetry and Creative Writing Group May meeting will be held at the Bridge Cafe next Tuesday between 10.30am and noon and for more information one should phone 01766 830403.
Energy
A FREE drop-in advice event in partnership with Y Dref Werdd will be held at the Antur Stiniog Shop at Diffwys on Thursday of this week between 10am and 3pm to provide advice on how to reduce energy bills.
Advice
THE Citizens Advice Bureau representative will be at the library on Monday between 10am and 1pm and no appointments are needed to attend.
Memorial
PROVIDED the site is suitable and available the town council has agreed to a request from Susan E. Salter from Gorleston, Great Yarmouth for her to plant a memorial tree at the War Memorial Garden at Llan Ffestiniog as a mark of respect for the Welshman who were killed at Mamete Wood, France in 1916. It would mean so much to her and the families who lost their loved ones a century ago.The tree which she would plant would be a Salix Pendula (Weeping Willow) with a maximum height of five feet.
