BLAENAU Amateurs FC Reserves’ end of season matches included a fine 5-4 win at Glan Conwy thanks to two goals from Gareth Evans, and one for Iolo Thomas, Jack Diamond and Aron Hughes.Then on Friday evening they were beaten 5-3 at Llangefni with Bryn Humphreys scoring two and Rhys Williams the other.Their final game of the season was due to be played at Llandudno Junction this week.Martin Hughes and Mike Burgoyne of the bowling club took part in the Gwynedd area Welsh Senior Merits qualifying rounds on Saturday but both failed to qualify to the next stages.One of the qualifying rounds was held at Llanfairfechan where Dafydd Hughes and R Elwyn Jones were in charge of the event on behalf of the Gwynedd Bowling Association.This Saturday the Blaenau team resumed their league programme with a home match against Llanrwst.
Council
HAVING been elected as vice-chair of Gwynedd Council, Cllr Annwen Daniels, who represents the Bowydd and Rhiw ward, has also been elected as chair of the Ffestiniog Town Council.Cllr Bedwyr Gwilym, who represents the Maenofferen and Diffwys ward, will be the vice-chairman.

Crazy golf
THE town council on a majority vote have agreed to a park partnership plan to have a crazy golf course on the present tennis court at the park and it was said that the park partnership will aim to create a tennis court on the old court in the future.As the town council has paid for the said course they have stated that any money raised from its use is to be collected at the park cafe and forwarded to the council.
Choir
ON Tuesday evening of last week the Moelwyn Choir conducted by Sylvia Ann Jones and accompanist Wenna Francis Jones entertained a group of Belgian visitors who were staying at the Royal Oak Hotel in Betws y Coed.Glyn Jones, the compère and the organiser for the visitors’ trip to Wales, has stated that the Moelwyn will be contacted again when another group visits the area.

THE Maenofferen Gallery hosts an art exhibition inspired by the archives collection which includes the work of Reginald Hallward, Rhian Haf and Morgan Griffith until 1 June which will be followed by an exhibition of the work of the local camera club members from 8 June until 23 July.Admission to the gallery is free during the library’s opening hours.

Cymdeithas archaeoleg
CYMDEITHAS Archaeoleg Bro Ffestiniog Archaeology Society recently held their AGM at Y Ganolfan.Chairman Bill Jones opened the proceedings with his report, the first since the founding of the society in early 2015.He summarised the digs members had been involved in and announced the digs for this spring and summer.They will be at Cwmorthin’s Tai Llyn where the well for the terrace will be explored and at Dolwyddelan where the search for an early church will be resumed.The planned exploration of the platform houses site at Bryn Glas has been put on hold until funding can be raised for carbon dating tests, essential in the dating of such early settlements.Secretary Ronwen Roberts gave her report and summarised the talks we have had since the society’s inception.The group has maintained its bilingual policy by alternating talks between Welsh, English and bilingual, with thanks going to Bryn Jones for providing Welsh to English running translation during the Welsh meetings.Peter Vaughan Jones gave his treasurer’s report which showed the books in a healthy position.All officers were re-elected en-bloc namely Bill Jones, chairman; Evan D Roberts, vice-chairman; Ronwen Roberts, secretary; Peter V Jones, treasurer.Committee members: Dafydd Jones, Avis Reynolds, Catrin Roberts and Mel Thomas, press officer. The society has now taken its summer break with the next talk scheduled for 22 September when Dr Ian Brooks will speak on the archaeology of the Antur Stiniog cycle tracks.Siop SiaradTHE Welsh learners social group’s Siop Siarad next meeting will be held at the Bridge Café at 11am on Saturday, 28 May, and all learners and fluent Welsh speakers are invited to attend for a cuppa and a chat.PlaqueDUE to various reasons the plaque which was made at Llechwedd and which states the twinning of the town with Rawson in Patagonia has finally been put in place at the newly called Rawson Square which is between the Ty Gorsaf Hotel and the railway station.
Bloom
THIS will be the 12th year of the annual Blaenau in Bloom garden competition and the organisers are looking forward to another good crop of entries. The five categories of the house gardens are large, small, containers, vegetables and wildlife.Last year saw an increase in the commercial category for shops and other business properties which was most welcome.Entry forms will be available at the Hen Bost Book Shop from Wednesday, 3 June and will be due in by Saturday, 2 July.Judging of all categories is set for the week of 4 July and the awards day is planned for the afternoon of Sunday, 24 July.
