Planning

THE town council has supported the applications resolved by the planning authority which include:1. The external and internal altera-tions to three and four Gwaenydd Road in order to revert existing residential dwelling into its original form of two separate dwellings;2 and 3. Retrospective applications to retain conversion of basement to self-contained flat at Llwyn Rhedyn, Oakeley Square and to retain deck-ing to rear of the dwelling;4. Discharge condition four of C15/0056/03/LL for land by 5 Fron Haul, Tanygrisiau;An application for holiday accomodation pre-application advice on land by Hafod Ruffudd has been refused.

Bowls

THE Bowling Club suffered a 11-1 defeat at St Asaph on Saturday with Iwan V Jones their only winner in the North Wales League A match. The club takes on Llanfairpwll on Thursday in a four home and four away Gwynedd Cup tie and on Saturday they host Llandudno in a league encounter.

Siarad

THE next meeting of Siop Siarad, the social group for Welsh learners and speakers, will be held at 11am on Saturday, 25 June at the Bridge Cafe. Meeting

THE town council having received a letter from Penrhyndeudraeth Town Council asking them if they would be interested in attending a meeting with other local councils to look into whether it is possible for the councils to come together to buy services like grass cutting on playing fields and cemeteries have replied that they are interested in attending a meeting, but explained that they are already responsible for mowing its nine local playgrounds but has no responsibility for the cemeteries.

Advice

THE Citizens Advice Bureau representative will be present at the library on Monday mornings from 10am till 1pm to give any relevant assistance where needed.

Congratulated

AT a recent meeting of the town council its new chairperson, Coun-cillor Annwen Daniels, was congratulated on her appointment as the Gwynedd Council’s vice chair.

Football

THE Blaenau Amateurs FC under their new managers Cei Roberts and Doug Hughes are in the process of arranging pre-season friendly matches which include Glantraeth home on 30 June and Towyn/Bryncrug home in the first week of August, with others yet to be confirmed. These will be the club’s first competitive matches under their new managers and both are looking forward to the challenge that lies ahead in the Welsh Alliance Division 2 season. The club has announced that Kevin Kavanagh will be in charge of the second team for the coming season.

Sign

THE town council, having received a request from a local resident for a sign for a new indication for Barlwyd View Terrace, has recommended that councillors examine the existing sign and report back to the council.

EIGRA Lewis Roberts, o Ddolwyddelen a chynt o Park Square y Blaeanu oedd yn dewis tri lleoliad yng ngogledd Cymru yn y rhaglen 3 Lle ar S4C nos Sul diwethaf. Ei dewis oedd Festri Capel Maenofferen y Blaenau, mynd am dro i fferm Garreg Fawr yn Waunfawr, a’i chartref yn Nolwyddelen.

Choir

THE Brythoniaid Choir conducted by John Eifion and accompanist Liz Ellis were in concert at St Mary’s Church, Dolgellau on Saturday evening with guest soloist Iwan Parry and harpist Rhiannon Pugh with proceeds of the evening being donated to the Dolgellau Hospital League of Friends.

Angling

THIRTY ONE anglers of all ages took part in a competition at Morwynion Lake on Sunday with the juniors competing for the “Sgotwrs nid Llosgwr Cup which was won by Nick Fazakerley who won the 11 till 16 age group with 11 fish at 12 pounds 8 ounces. Aled Sion was second with 9 at 9-3 and third was Benjamin Thomas with 5 at 5 -12. The cup was presented by Andy Ruffley of the North Wales Fire and Rescue Service.The under 10s winner was Jane Ellen Williams with 4 at 4-1, Dylan Jones was second with 3 at 2-14 and Alyssa Jones was third with 2 at 2-10.The senior winner was Bernie Bartrum with 5 at 5-7 and the runner up was Darren Jones with 4 at 4-11 and third was Janice Jones with 3 at 4-4. The heaviest fish was 2-10 presented by Gethin Jones.

Darts

THE number of ladies darts teams competing in the Blaenau Ffestiniog Darts League has dwindled considerably over the years, and at the annual roll of honour awards evening held at the RWF Club it was the Kings Head team that dominated proceedings being the singles, doubles, the KO shield and the 4s winners. Their team members, Iola Jones and Llinos Williams, also won the Charity Shield beating their teammates Davina Blackwell and Nia Evans in the final.Davina with Margaret Roberts went one better by winning the pairs event, Iola Jones the Under 30s event and Llinos Williams and Margaret Roberts had the highest scores in the singles and doubles leagues respectively. The runners up in both leagues were Merched y Gasgan and Queens Tap won the threes event.Kath Evans of Blaenau Club was the 56+ Champion and the league’s wooden spoonists were the Queens Tap and the Blaenau Club.Making the presentations was the league’s president Helen Davies who was also among the winners being the runner-up in the 56+ event.
