Choir

ON Sunday evening, the Brythoniaid Male Voice Choir conducted by John Eifion and accompanist Liz Ellis gave their annual concert at Y Ganolfan, Porthmadog where they were joined on stage by soloists Sian Wyn Gibson and mezzo soprano and tenor Robin Lyn.

Gallery

THE Maenofferen Gallery hosts a new exhibition until 10 September of the work of the photographer Annie Williams under the heading of “Mannau Coll” (Lost places) and admission to the gallery is free during the library’s opening hours.

Band

THE Oakeley Silver band under their conductor John Glyn Jones have started on their annual Sunday afternoon concerts, entertaining the visitors at Portmeirion.

Next Saturday they will be in competition at the National Eisteddfod at Abergavenny.

Advice

EVERY Monday, except the bank holidays, a representative of the Citizens Advice Bureau will be at the library between 10am and 1pm and no appointments are needed to attend.

Football

THE Blaenau Amateurs pre-season friendly matches have got under way with a 3-2 away defeat at Harlech with Keiron Ellis scoring their goals.

They’re home to Llanstumdwy this Wednesday before they take on Glantraeth at Cae Clyd on Saturday. They start their Welsh Alliance Division Two season with a home match against Llanerchymedd on 13 August, then at Llanllyfni on the 17 August before they travel to play Cemaes Bay in a Welsh Cup first round tie on the 20 August.

Clwb Cerdded

Angling

ON Friday evening, a fly-only competition was held at the Gamallt Lakes.

The winner was Calfyn Williams with three fish at 1lb 14oz, and he was awarded the Emrys Evans Memorial Cup. In 2nd place was Peter Jones with the one fish at 1-4.

The Cambrian Angling Association’s final competition of the season will be for the juniors to be held at Ffridd Lake on 11 September where they will be competing for the Glyn Lloyd Memorial Cup.

Bowls

HAVING had to postpone their previous home match against Beamaris due to the weather, the Blaenau Bowling team resumed their North Wales League A campaign with a disappointing 10-2 defeat at Colwyn Bay British Legion.Their winners were Dafydd Hughes and Stephen Jones.

This Friday, it is hoped to play Beaumaris at home following the recent postponement of that match.

Bloom

THE 12th annual Blaenau in Bloom presentations took place at the Church Hall on Sunday.

There were several categories from which the gardeners could choose from and the overall winners were Dylan and Glenys Lewis of Maen Gwyn, Manod who won the Wildlife, the Large came 2nd in the containers and 3rd in the vegetable gardens categories.

Second in the Large Gardens was Barbara Heyes of Cae Clyd and 3rd was Celia and John White-head of Bryn Elltyd who also won the Commercial class with Isallt, Church Street gaining the Highly Praised award in that class.

Doug Hughes, Dolrhedyn won the small gardens award, Joan Jones, Bronddwyryd, 2nd and Teulu Neigwl, Wynne Road, 3rd.

Eurwen Davies, Bowydd Road won the containers class with Martin Couture, Lord Street coming 3rd. Dafydd Roberts won the vegetable category with Barbara Heyes coming 2nd, who was also 2nd in the Wildlife class, and Teulu Neigwl 3rd.

The event was presided over by David Williams who introduced the judges Eurwyn Roberts, Dolwyddelen and Wil Rowlands from Bala and he thanked all who contributed in any way in making it a good competition.

Making the presentations were Ann Coxon, Cllr Annwen Daniels Daniel Griffith of Y Dref Werdd, Olwen Roberts and Elin Jones.
