Railway

IT IS some 20 years since the last train used the line between Blaenau and the Trawsfynydd Power Station carrying the nuclear waste to Cumbria. Since then the track has overgrown with all sorts of foliage and it has been a target for constant fly tipping. There was a move by Antur Stiniog to install a Velorail but nothing came of that idea. Last Wednesday Cllr Anwen Daniels met on site with Network Rail customers man-ager Ian Mussnar, a representative of Y Dref Werdd who are based locally and other interested parties. The result of the meeting was from next Monday, 12 September work will commence in clearing the line from the Urdd side to the crossing at Cwmbowydd Road.Cllr Daniels added that volunteers would be welcomed to carry out the work which will be supervised by Network Rail. As for the next step on clearing the line nothing has been set and there is no confirmation of the rumour going around that a steam engine visitors train will be using this the former GWR line which at one stage ran through to Bala.
