Ben Lake MP took a walk in a blindfold along Lampeter’s Bridge Street to learn more about the challenges faced by the blind and partially sighted.

The MP was joined by staff and volunteers from Guide Dogs Cymru as he began the walk from his office in Lampeter, assisted by a sighted guide.

Visual impairment affects more than 100,000 people in Wales, with work being done to try and assist those with limited or no sight to be able to walk the streets, take buses and engage with community life.

Following the walk, Mr Lake said: “The walk brought into sharp relief the challenges faced by blind and partially sighted people on a daily basis.

"Whether it’s obstacles blocking the way, problems with using public transport, or poor street design, they are too often denied independent and safe travel.

“Experiencing these difficulties for a brief period has reconfirmed my view that legislative improvements are necessary to ensure those who are blind or partially sighted are able to enjoy safe access to our high streets.”
