ABERYSTWYTH Blood Bikes group has welcomed a new motorbike to help bolster its life-saving service following a donation from a town businessman in honour of his late wife.

The local Blood Bikes Wales group - which offer a vital service for mid and north Wales, delivering medicines, bloods and other medical needs across the region - was presented with the new bike last week by Cambrian Tyres founder Cledwyn Evans.

The brand new BMW R1250 RT LE motorcycle, has been named Myfanwy after Mr Evans’ late wife who sadly passed away early last year.

Also known to many Aberystwyth residents as Margaret she played a huge part in founding the company, which celebrated 50 years in business back in February.

The Aberystwyth Blood Bikes Wales crew cover from Llanbrynmair in the north to Rhayader in the east and Cardigan in the south and Mathew Leeman, a key member of the group who also works at Cambrian Tyres as a sales manager, said that the donation would be a “great addition to our life-saving motorcycle fleet.”

Cambrian Tyres said that the Aberystwyth Blood Bikes team “all do an absolutely amazing job with both transporting essential and often life-saving supplies for the Welsh NHS and fundraising to support the continuation of their important work.”

“Myfanwy was someone who contributed a great deal to our local community, and we hope that this gift in her memory will continue to make a difference in Aberystwyth and beyond for years to come,” the company added.

A popular service to raise money for, Aberystwyth’s Blood Bikes Wales branch purchased a new motorcycle earlier this year after The Friends of Bronglais Hospital donated a massive £12,500 to the cause.

The charity said it saw a massive increase in the demand for its service throughout the pandemic with workload increasing by 300 per cent.
