A book commemorating the 115 men from the Llanidloes area who lost their lives in the First World War will shortly be released, with walkers recently completing a memorial walk around the area as part of the launch of the book.

Nick Venti and Nia Griffiths have been working for around eight years researching the soldiers from the Llanidloes and district area who are named on the Llanidloes cenotaph following the Remembrance parade in the town in 2011.

Since then, Nick and Nia have researched the men and their lives, deciding to collate their work into a book, which will shortly be available.

As well as the launch of Llanidloes and District in the Great War, five friends, Paul Avery, Paul Jones, Wendy Abel, John Dunkley and Stephen Mills, walked 45 miles, visiting the parishes of all 115 soldiers named on the cenotaph.

The five walkers set off on Friday, 11 October and returned to Llanidloes the following day.

On their return, they were met by the ladies’ branch of the Royal British Legion, who launched the 2019 Poppy Appeal at a stall.

Both Nick and Nia were present at the event to meet the walkers as they returned to Llanidloes, and help launch the Poppy Appeal.

The book can now be ordered from the Great Oak Bookshop in Llanidloes.
