THE Barmouth branch of the RNLI has raised an incredible £60,000 this year.

At their annual ‘Thank-you’ evening on 1 December, fund-raising chair Wendy Ponsford addressed a crowded room of supporters, crew members, and RNLI shop volunteers and congratulated everyone for their hard work.

During the evening, stalwart fund-raiser Eric Tranter was presented with an inscribed cut glass goblet for over 50 years of support for the RNLI.

Eric had been vicechair of the Dudley Branch in the West Midlands before moving to Fairbourne and becoming a member of the Barmouth Fund-raising Committee.

He has been responsible for collecting lifeboat boxes from Fairbourne and the surrounding areas for many years.

June Davies, Barmouth RNLI treasurer and shop manager announced another record-breaking year for the station.

During 2017, a total of over £60,000 had been raised from events held, the RNLI shop and donations.

Much of this success was due to the “tremendous support received from all the crew, local businesses as well as visitors to the station” she said.

The next event in the RNLI calendar will be the annual New Year’s Day Dip on 1 January 2018 at 11am.

The dip is open to anyone feeling brave enough to participate and sponsor forms can be obtained from Barmouth Lifeboat Station or by emailing [email protected]
