A TEAM of enthusiastic young farmers, a former Royal chef and members of the Farmers’ Union of Wales helped to make this year’s FUW Meirionnydd breakfast week one to remember.

The breakfasts managed to raise an impressive £1,905 for charity as well as raising much-needed publicity for local producers.

Breakfast feasts were held the length and breadth of the country as farmers encourage people to buy local.

The breakfast feasts, which were held T? Mawr, Carrog, Corwen; Canolfan Pennal, Machynlleth and at Bryn Uchaf, Llanymawddwy, Dinas Mawddwy, formed part of the FUW’s Wales wide Farmhouse breakfast week campaign (21 and 27 January), aimed at promoting the great Welsh food that farmers produce every day of the year.

“It was about showcasing the most important meal of the day in a bid to raise awareness of the health and nutritional benefits of breakfast and the huge variety of top quality farm produce available in Wales – ranging from bacon, sausages and eggs to speciality dairy products, breads and cereals. And a first this year was that we had local Welsh lamb on the menu at our Pennal breakfast, which was thoroughly enjoyed by everyone. We loved having everyone there and I thank all those who supported us this year either by cooking, sponsoring produce or helping us raise money for our worthy charities,” said FUW Meirionnydd CEO Huw Jones.
