In this long, drawn-out ‘Covid’ winter it seems the right time to write to the Cambrian News to express feelings of nostalgia of happy memories of years around 1948.

Oh, how I would love to see Gymanfa Ganu - Côr y Castell returned to Aberystwyth promenade on a Sunday evening, perhaps on the bandstand as more central.

I feel sure there would be someone or some club willing to organise especially if free use of the bandstand could be arranged with Ceredigion County Council for us council tax-payers.

The singing of the large gatherings characteristic of the Welsh people, where they love to meet and sing, purely for the love of it also attracting so many visitors to join in would I feel sure attract the same crowds as it did over 70 years ago.

I know that to relive this Welsh singing would certainly get me off the sofa on a Sunday evening to enjoy and even join in the singing. I do hope that Ceredigion County Council will encourage and back the return of Gymanfa Ganu as after all we in Wales are ‘the land of song’.
