ONE of north Wales’ foremost sports journalists will be signing his book and raising money for a worthy cause in Bala this weekend.
Wrexham-born Sky Sports reporter Bryn Law will be in the town’s golf club this Saturday night to promote his new publication ‘Zombie Nation Awakes’ and raise money for the Gary Speed Foundation.
The evening will also feature local DJs, a raffle and a sportswear auction, as well as a live acoustic set from the lead singer of the Tea Street Band, Timo Tierney.
The event has been organised by Bala local Tim Williams, the entrepreneur behind the acclaimed Spirit of ‘58 merchandise brand which has become synonymous with Wales’ 2016 European Championship campaign.
Tim has organised several of these events across the country and has helped raise thousands of pounds for Welsh charities over the last few years.
However this will be the first event that Tim has held in his home town and all money raised will go to a cause very close to his heart.
“I’m very proud to hold an event in Bala, we’ve not had anything like this before,” he told the Cambrian News.
“There’s people coming from across the country - from Anglesey, Blackpool, Cardiff, all over really - and approximately 130 people will be there.
“It’s going to be a really good night, the Tea Street Band are very up and coming so I’m particularly looking forward to hearing Timo.
“We’ve also got a signed shirt and a signed match ball from the Wales v Andorra game which guaranteed our place in the Euros - there’s a few other things as well which should raise a few hundred quid.
“It’s all going to the Gary Speed Foundation, a charity set up in the memory of the man who made this qualification possibly, somebody who we lost too soon.
“It’s a worthy cause which helps people suffering with mental health issues.”
At the event, Mr Law will be on hand for a question/answer session about his new book which chronicles the Welsh team’s qualification process and their ascent into FIFA’s top 10 world ranking.
The book - published by St Davids Press - offers the chance for football fans to follow the action through a sports journalist and true Welsh fan’s eyes.
Additionally, Tim will be releasing his new Spirit of 58 merchandise as well as a new magazine for Welsh football fans.
