I want to respond to your article ‘Planners have a big role in shaping our future’ (26 March).

The biggest challenge facing the future of our communities must be resilience and adaption. Not just in the immediate face of the coronavirus epidemic but to cope with changes in our climate.

Climate change is still happening. Developing Covid-19 is not the only thing that has a time lag. We have released enough CO2 into the atmosphere for climate change to continue unabated for years.

I could not believe what I read in this article. Cllr Rhodri Evans, Cabinet member for economy and regeneration, claiming that Russell Hughes-Pickering had ‘vision’ for the future. Any sensible long-term planning would have ensured no new building on flood plains and by the sea and encouraged new builds away from coastal areas. This patently has not been the case.

I hope our newer planners will have more ‘vision’ and futureproof our society.
