BUILDINGS in Aberystwyth were lit up yellow on Saturday night in celebration of Geraint Thomas becoming the first ever Welshman to win the Tour de France.

Geraint rode into Paris on Sunday in the iconic yellow jersey to become the first Welshman to ever win the biggest race in cycling.

Once it was clear that the Cardiff-born cyclist had won the three-week challenge, buildings across Wales were lit up in yellow to celebrate his achievement.

The National Library of Wales and the Royal Pier in Aberystwyth joined in with the celebrations.

Ceredigion AM and Welsh Assembly’s Presiding Officer, Elin Jones, tweeted a video on Saturday night congratulating Geraint and said that the Welsh Government’s Senedd building would also be illuminated yellow to mark his great achievement.
