More than 20 new jobs have been created at a Gwynedd cheese-processing business.
The jobs are being created at Futura Foods, a new cheese-processing site in Minffordd on the former site of GRH Food Company which closed last summer after going into administration.
But in October, Gloucestershire-based Futura Foods – one of the largest suppliers of continental cheese to the UK and Ireland – took on the brand.
The business is owned by major Danish dairy business Nordex Food.
The new owners are now fully operational and have been awarded BRC AA accreditation. With increased production and higher consumer demand during these challenging times, 22 new jobs have been created alongside the 17 people currently employed.
Futura Foods UK managing director Hans Christiansen said: “Futura Foods is delighted to announce that our ‘state of the art’ added-value cheese-cutting and packing site in Minffordd, North Wales has been independently audited this week and will be awarded BRC AA accreditation. I am immensely proud of the team who have worked extremely hard at this challenging time to achieve this in a short space of time.
“Customer response to our plans has been extremely positive, we are delighted with the feedback and with the commitment and enthusiasm shown by our team in North Wales. We are fully operational and increasing production in line with our customer needs both here In the UK and in export markets, through our parent company.
“Our focus is on providing a flexible, high-quality site to process UK and continental cheese. Increasing capacity and supporting innovation are key to our future plans.
“The new site will complement our existing strength in supplying an extensive range of continental dairy products including feta, halloumi and Italian cheeses, and extend our product offer, as we now can format cheddar, mozzarella and UK territorials as well.
“We are also delighted to support the local economy with new employment opportunities and these will grow as the business develops. Given the unprecedented situation we all face currently, I wanted to give you a quick update on our wider business.
“Our cross-functional teams have been fantastic in adapting new working patterns, to ensure we can continue to maintain product supply for our customers.”
