A budget supermarket chain is expected to open its new store in Aberystwyth in November.
Aldi is listing the supermarket on its recruitment website and is seeking applicants to fill the estimated 40 jobs that will be created by the new store on the old Cambrian Garage and Kwik Save site on Park Avenue - a parcel of land the company has owned for nearly a decade.
The German supermarket chain submitted proposals to build a “modestly sized food store” with a net sales area of 1,254m² and 85 car parking spaces, including dedicated disabled and parent and children parking, in November.
The store on the site would create approximately 40 full and part-time permanent local jobs, the company said, which would be paid at an “industry-leading rate of £8.85 per hour as a minimum”.
A pre-application consultation period saw 91 per cent of respondents to Aldi’s consultation indicate that they supported the proposals for the Park Avenue site.
The land on Park Avenue has lain abandoned on the main thoroughfare into Aberystwyth since 2009, and calls have been repeatedly made for the land to be developed.
