JUDGING has taken place for this year’s Aber First Awards.

A panel of judges, comprising of representatives from sponsors and businesspeople, have met to consider the numerous entries in the Gwobrau Cyntaf Aber First Awards 2017.

They have now selected which local businesses, organisations and individuals will take home an award.

This year the judges were also assisted by the use of mystery shoppers. There are 10 categories in this year’s awards, together with the Overall Business of the Year Award for the most outstanding winner, sponsored by Aberystwyth University.

Aberystwyth University and Aberystwyth Town Council, in partnership through Menter Aberystwyth, are hosting the Menter Aberystwyth Gwobrau Cyntaf Aber First Awards 2017.

The Cambrian News is one of the sponsors and others include Aberystwyth Town Council, Gwe Cambrian Web, Coleg Ceredigion (Hospitality and Catering), Red Squirrel Marketing, Alex @ No 21, Cambrian Printers and Aberystwyth Arts Centre

The success of these local awards prompted the organisers to make this an annual event which is designed to acknowledge the best practice and excellence displayed by organisations and businesses in the area.

Those shortlisted for an award will be invited to attend a ceremony held on Friday, 23 June, in the Old College, King Street, Aberystwyth.

Jim Wallace, chair of Menter Aberystwyth, said: “The Aber First Awards started in 2008 as part of Menter Aberystwyth’s initial three-year business plan and, until recently, have taken place every two years.

“From humble beginnings the awards are now a prestigious event in Aberystwyth’s diary and are now an established, annual event.

“This year promises to be our biggest and best ceremony yet."
