THE UKIP Assembly Member for Mid and West Wales has shown his support for a Tremadog landlady by backing her campaign for an outdoor seating area.

Neil Hamilton accused Gwynedd Council “discouraging businesses” after they informed landlady of The Union Inn, Peta Panter, to remove tables and chairs outside her pub in Tremadog.

The landlady was told by a Gwynedd Council officer she had to remove the tables and chairs over a bank holiday weekend as they were situated on the “highway”.

A petition was launched following the incident to urge Gwynedd Council to allow the use of tables and chairs outside the premises.

Mr Hamilton and his wife, Christine, have now visited Peta to offer their support.

He said: “After visiting Peta at her pub and seeing the area which she used for the tables and chairs I am now going to write to Gwynedd Council to suggest what could be done to help her with this.

“I understand in front of the pub there are car parking spaces, but the council could look into extending the pavement so that tables and chairs could be placed there."
