BARCLAYS Bank has apologised after a spelling error on a Welsh-language sign outside their newly refurbished Aberystwyth branch.
The error — the sign reads ‘Dydd Sadwyn’ instead of ‘Dydd Sadwrn’, meaning Saturday — was quickly spotted this week following the reopening of the branch after an internal and external refurbishment.
The English language also features heavily in the sign, including the following untranslated words: 'We are open', 'Closed', 'Free WiFi', 'Terms and conditions apply', and 'all assistance dogs welcome'.
The refurbishment, the bank said, includes “bilingual functionality” of the ATM machines and quick service points.
Speaking to the Cambrian News, a spokesperson for Barclays Bank apologised and said the sign will be replaced this weekend.
Raj Dhaliwal, Barclays community banking director for north Wales, said: “Following the extensive refurbishment of our Aberystwyth branch completed this week, which has included significant investment into bilingual signage and bilingual functionality of the ATMs and Quick Service Points, we have noticed some mistakes with regard to our external bilingual signage.
“We apologise for the oversight and are currently in the process of obtaining new external signage for the branch.”
