A well-known Ceredigion coach hire company has had its public service vehicle operator’s licence suspended for 21 days by the Traffic Commissioner for Wales.
Brodyr James Cyfyngedig, of Llangeitho, has been operating for almost 40 years.
But a DVSA spokesman said an inquiry into the company was called following concerns raised by DVSA as to the operator’s preventative maintenance system and compliance with the legislation relating to drivers’ hours and tachographs.
“A public service vehicle operator’s licence held by Brodyr James Cyfyngedig under our reference PG1027639 was considered for regulatory action at a public inquiry on 26 June,” he said.
“The decision of the presiding deputy traffic commissioner included the suspension of the licence for a period of 21 consecutive days from 20 July until 10 August.”
The hearing was told that findings of shortcomings in the maintenance and tachograph systems were not disputed by the operator.
Deputy traffic commissioner Anthony Seculer said directors David Elwyn James and Thomas Morgan Gwynfor James needed to demonstrate, at 72 and 80 years of age respectively, that they had the commitment, energy and capacity to modernise systems.
