CONCERNS have been raised over the future of Morfa Bychan Post Office after it closed its doors suddenly.

The Post Office, which is situated inside the new Bargain Booze store, closed in the last month leaving residents concerned.

Cllr Selwyn Griffiths, who represents Morfa Bychan on Gwynedd Council, says he is now in talks with the Post Office to bring the service back to the village as soon as possible.

He said: “Major concerns have risen in the village about the future of the Post Office in the local shop.

“The shop has been sold, the current postmaster has been forced to retire and the post office has closed.

“The future is very uncertain as the new owners of the shop are not going to take over the post office but they are willing for anyone else to take over the counter.

“But I am also in talks with the Post Office to see if they are able to bring a mobile service to the village and the shop owners have said they would be willing to allow them to use their car park.

“We need this matter dealt with as soon as possible, the majority of the population in Morfa Bychan is over 60 years of age and they will find it difficult to travel to Porthmadog to get their money from the Post Office.

The Post Office has confirmed that they closed their counter in Morfa Bychan on 27 July due to the ill-health of the postmaster.
