A FAMILY-OWNED bookshop is in the running for a national award.

Browsers Bookshop, Porthmadog has been shortlisted in the Independent Bookshop category in the first ever Welsh Independent Retail Awards which take place in Cardiff next month.

Sian Cowper, of Browsers Bookshop, was delighted to be recognised.

“As a family-owned business in our 43rd year - now second generation - we all at Browsers Bookshop are absolutely thrilled to have been nominated by our customers,” she said.

“We are also very pleased to hear how many of the public have got involved with this event – proving that people really do value small independent businesses in their local area and that the high street is once again a thriving place in many of our towns and villages.
