HOW CAN a giant panettone help home and abroad at the same time? Matt’s Deli in Bow Street has the answer.

Firstly, it was raffled to help Syrian refugees and raised £200, and then, after winning the grand sweet bred, Iain Wright donated it to the Hatch at St Michael’s Church in Aberystwyth.

The Hatch is a homeless Sunday meal-time provision run by St Michael’s Church with church and non-church volunteers, providing a Sunday lunch for people experiencing a difficult time in their lives or who just feel they need some company on a Sunday and some friendly faces to talk to.

A Hatch spokesperson said: “The Panettone was a great gift and we will be able to make many, many desserts for the guests who use the Hatch, especially bread and butter pudding.”

The Hatch is open every Sunday at 1pm at the Castle Rooms next to St Michael’s for free meals, tea and coffee for anyone in need of support.
