A DERELICT building in Porthmadog, which has been viewed as an eyesore in the town for many years, has been sold for £150,000 at auction.

Earlier this year Colliers International were instructed as receivers for Snowdon Mill and hoped to sell the building as a development opportunity, with the site having previously received planning permission for 27 apartments and on-site parking.

The building, previously owned by Belgrave Homes Ltd, has been an eyesore in the town for many years and news that it has been sold has been welcomed by Porthmadog councillor Jason Humphreys.

He said: “On the face of it, this is fantastic news because it brings hope of the day becoming nearer when the Snowdon Mill, a Grade II listed structure, is once again a positive feature of Porthmadog rather than the wreck that it has been for far too long.

“The dilapidated state of the old mill has been a huge thorn in the side of Porthmadog for many years.
