The future of an Aberystwyth clothing store “does not look good”, after it was emptied of its stock and fittings.

After Peacocks in Aberystwyth, which did not reopen after lockdown was lifted, was recently emptied of stock, rumours began circulating regarding the future of the store on Ystwyth Retail Park.

Aberystwyth county councillor, Ceredig Davies, said: “Rumours have circulated around town for a number of weeks as to the future of Peacocks.

“Seeing the shop stripped of its stock and fittings it does not look good. There are those that have argued that there was over capacity in clothing retail and a market correction was inevitable.

“It looks as if Covid will unfortunately be the catalyst for the correction and only time will tell how many other businesses will close, not only here in Aberystwyth but across the whole country.”

Peacocks have been approached for comment.
