TWO Cadwaladers ice cream shops in the Llyn are set to close with the loss of 10 jobs.

The Welsh coffee and ice-cream chain has been bought out of administration in a deal that will secure 92 jobs at the company.

The management team at Cadwaladers, led by Diane Brierley and Mark Andrews, bought the firm to secure its future.

However in the restructure, the company will close five of their 14 shops in Wales and England, including those at Pwllheli and Abersoch.

The firm has said 10 jobs have been lost in north Wales as a result of the closures.

Their shop in Porthmadog will continue to operate.

Pwllheli town councillor Jonathan Roberts said: “It’s always sad to see smaller coffee houses, tea rooms and food outlets closing. Places like Cadwaladers put so much into the economy, by buying locally on the whole.

“My message to everyone is use your small businesses before it’s too late, otherwise all we’ll be left with is a town full of charity shops and faceless chain brands.”

Cllr Wyn Williams, who represents Abersoch on Gwynedd Council, added: “Cadwaladers in the village was a great asset for Abersoch and the surrounding area and was very popular with locals and tourists.
