A GROUP of users of Tregaron Leisure Centre have expressed an interest in taking over and running the facility, it has emerged.

At last week’s meeting of Ceredigion council’s Cabinet, members accepted a recommendation to pursue an expression of interest by a Tregaron group. This will allow the group to develop a “robust” business case which has to be submitted to the council by 31 August.

It is understood that the authority’s economic development service will be on hand to assist the group in their efforts.

Cllr Rhodri Evans, Cabinet member for lifestyle services, said usage of the centre has increased “markedly” since a meeting to discuss its future was held earlier this year.

“There is no doubt in my mind that the community are fully supportive of retaining this facility,” he said.

“Let us hope we have a suitable business plan in place by 31 August. I’m very encouraged by this development and it’s good to know that there are people within the community prepared to ensure the retention of such a valuable facility."
