A LLANIDLOES brewery has two beers competing in the Society of Independent Brewers’ national beer competition final.
The Waen Brewery, based on the Maesyllan Industrial Estate, has won nominations for its Snowball beer, which packs a punch at 7.0 ABV, and Lemon Drizzle, at 3.7 ABV.
The brewery was started in 2009 by Sue Hayward and John Martin and quickly outgrew its original site near Newtown, moving to Llanidloes.
A total of 16 beers from the Wales and West region have been selected for a place in the finals taking place at the ‘Festival of Beer’.
Sue said: “We are proud to have two beers the SIBA BeerX National beer competition. The beers are there because they both won Gold medals at the SIBA Wales and West regional beer competition in May 2015. At the Wales and West competition at Ludlow last year, we won a total of seven awards, our biggest haul yet!
“We began in 2009, upsized and moved to larger premises in 2012. We supply UK wide, and are renowned for our innovative craft beers in keg, cask, bottle and can. I am, as the brewer, one of only two female brewers that I know of in Wales."
The overall Gold Champion winners will be announced at an awards ceremony on 16 March.
