AN ARTHOG campsite has scooped a prestigious tourism award.

Graig Wen campsite in Arthog near Dolgellau has won best camping, caravan, glamping at the first ever North Wales Tourism Awards.

The glitzy ceremony took place in Llandudno on 24 November.

Graig Wen owners Sarah Heyworth and John McKenzie-Murdoch were presented with the award by Joe Bickerton, Destination Manager at Wrexham County Borough Council and Peter McGivern, chair of the award sponsors Wrexham Destination Partnership for excellence in caravan or holiday parks that offer cabin and tenting accommodation and enhance the tourism experience in the destination.

The judges were impressed by Graig Wen’s promotion of the local area and other local businesses in terms of food and drink suppliers, restaurants, pubs and attractions in Snowdonia which they showcase to customers.

“We were so surprised and delighted when Graig Wen was announced as the winner,” said Sarah. “We are absolutely over the moon! Graig Wen is just a small site, but it shows that even small businesses can make an impact when they promote what’s special about their area.

We’ve been overwhelmed by congratulations from our customers, neighbours, suppliers and other local businesses. We would like to take this opportunity to thank them all for their support, as well as our staff, past and present, who have helped make Graig Wen an award-winning campsite.”
