A NEW café bar will open in Aberystywth next month, creating 25 new jobs.

Loungers plc, have confirmed this week that the Athro Lounge, situated in Yr Hen Ysgol on Alexandra Road, will open on Wednesday, 14 July, and will create 25 jobs.

Loungers say they have transformed the site into a ‘family-friendly retro-inspired cosy retreat, where eclectic artwork sit next to oversized vintage sofas and old school benches, strikingly painted table tops and statement lighting’.

The company says particular attention has been paid to families – there’ll be a fine selection of games and books, colouring pencils and pads, a full menu just for Little Loungers and high chairs and baby-changing facilities are available for the tiny ones.

Dan Biscombe, Operations Manager, Loungers, said “The team have eagerly awaited opening the doors to Athro Lounge.

"As well as providing Aberystwyth with an inclusive food and drink offering, the team will also revolutionise the way the area thinks about the word community with ongoing fundraising projects for DASH Ceredigion.”

A community noticeboard is available for those wanting to publicise events and a book swap area will be kept well stocked.

The team will also be holding regular fundraising events as part of their commitment to making a difference in the community.

When the company applied to Ceredigion County Council to install signage on the building, they said: “The lounge café/bar will be a popular destination for locals of all ages, encouraging social interaction within the community.

“This use will complement the existing character of the area, will encourage an ‘active frontage’ and will strengthen the shopping area nearby.

“The lounge café/bar will be open throughout the day and into the evening, will be food led and will have a particular appeal to families - vertical drinking is not encouraged."
