ONE of the biggest office blocks in Aberystwyth is to be sold by the Welsh Government after it was announced that the last remaining workers are to move out.

Currently only 30 staff of the Royal Commission on the Ancient and Historical Monuments of Wales are based at the former tax offices off Plascrug Avenue.

But it has now been announced that they will be relocating to the National Library of Wales.

No jobs will be lost and RCAHMW will pay to rent one wing of the library, which is in the process of being refurbished.

The office block is owned by the Welsh Government which said: “Following confirmation that the Royal Commission on the Ancient and Historical Monuments of Wales is relocating to the National Library for Wales, it is our intention to place the Plas Crug offices for sale on the open market.”

The National Library, which has faced mounting losses, service cuts and job losses in the last few years, will now see a regular income from the arrangement.

Christopher Catling, Secretary of the Royal Commission, said: “The move from the present Plas Crug offices to purpose-designed premises at the Library will enable us to provide a much better service to our many users, as well as much-improved storage facilities for the Commission’s archives.”
