Lampeter Pharmacy Shop at 3 High Street has celebrated 150 years of business.
In 1869 Roderick Evans opened the chemist shop.
He had a good start by marrying the daughter of Williams the chemist, Llanybydder.
The railway came to Lampeter in 1865 and opened up trade for farmers and other business.
Mr Evans and family lived above the shop.
They were supportive of town and gown in many ways for over 50 years.
In 1923 Miles Davies took over and he and his family lived over the shop.
His daughters worked in the shop for a time.
On retiring during the Second World War he moved to Aberystwyth. William Phillips took over in 1943.
He had qualified at London College in 1930 and settled in Lampeter and married Betty a local girl.
This was a wise move as Betty Phillips, who now resides locally at Hafan Deg, proved to be a good backbone and worker in the business.
Bill was a hands-on chemist with a home made cure for nearly all ailments. His tenure here was during the start of the NHS in 1948.
It was in 1994 that Phillip Lodwick moved over from Boots the Chemists and modernised the premises.
He also married a local girl Ceris, who also gave him a wider local family.
Philip retired after serving the town for 30 years.
Adrian Thomas of Hendy, Pontardulais, took over in 2004 and again modernised the premises and after 15 years of service, the Chemist Shop’s future looks bright.
