BARRELS of beer from a Porthmadog brewery have been delivered by train to the Wetherspoons pub next to Aberystwyth’s railway station.

The barrels of Dark Side of the Moose and Merry X-Moose were sent to Yr Hen Orsaf by Purple Moose micro-brewery to mark the start of the Christmas season.

Arriva Trains Wales granted the brewery an early Christmas wish and agreed to transport the barrels.

Arriva said its aim was to connect people and communities, while acknowledging the importance the railway has in promoting economic development in rural as well as urban areas.

The award-winning ales boarded the 16.01 off peak service train at Porthmadog and travelled down the Cambrian Coast line to ensure they arrived safely at the old railway station.

Lawrence Washington, managing director of Purple Moose Brewery, said: “It seemed only fitting that the beer should arrive by train to a pub in an old railway station building."

Andrew Lance of Arriva Trains Wales, added: “We thought it would be a really nice way to mark the first shipment down to Aberystwyth, especially with the pub being right in the station there."
