DINAS Mawddwy students have taken part in a project to encourage youngsters to explore job opportunities in the local area.
Supported by Arloesi Gwynedd Wledig under the ‘Byw a Bod Digidol’ initiative, Daniel Layton of Groeslon, Dylan Hughes from Waunfawr, Eben Muse from Carmel and Caeo Harri of Dinas Mawddwy were placed with some of the area’s leading digital businesses to research into what opportunities exists for local people looking for work in the sector.
“From personal experience it is difficult to know what jobs exists locally,” said Daniel, who is set to start a computer science degree course at Bangor University in September.
“This project helps address that issue, especially for IT jobs, by highlighting where good jobs can be found in Gwynedd.”
Whilst working together, the group have found that digital Companies based at Parc Menai alone could create 200 new high-value jobs if the right skills were readily available locally.
“I didn’t realise before, the amount of IT employment opportunities in the local area, especially at Parc Menai,” said Daniel. “The only time I had ever visited the business park was for the Olympic torch ceremony, so I had no idea of the amount of jobs available here.”
